These two women walked around the medical clinic where we were working and sold small bags of these chips to the people waiting in line. They are very inexpensive and very good. It is very common to see women walking around town with a large plastic container like this one full of food for sale.
(Click on the photograph to see it enlarged in another window.)
What other kinds of food were available to buy from the locals? Was it all safe to eat?
ReplyDeleteIt really depends on where you are. In coastal areas coconut bread and candy are popular. In small towns you might see tajaditas, mangos with chile powder and lime, and carmel fudge called dulce de leche.
ReplyDeleteAs far as safety is concerned, I did not eat things with meat or cooked in water from street vendors. Otherwise foods that are cooked should be safe and fresh fruit should always be washed in clean water.
Love this site. I'm learning so much. I read each post fully. Thank you.
